New Westminster is rich with heritage as it is one of British Columbia's early settlements and capitols. New Westminster was home to the first Federal penitentiary west of Manitoba, which is no longer standing and is now known as Fraserview. The city has had it's own Chinatown which is now Antique Row, Woodlands or known as The Asylum which is now Victoria Hill, The Armoury, the original colonial Government House was located approximately where Royal City Manor is now, Canadian Pacific Railway that now houses The Keg and the list continues.

 

There is no lack of entertainment in New West! The city has a wide variety of theatrical venues such as Massey Theatre, The Columbia and most recently Landmark Cinemas. There are various restaurants and pubs to enjoy a wide variety of food and live entertainment. There is an abundance of parks, recreation and local sports teams. One of the most popular hot spots for recreation is Canada Games Pool. Some of New West's parks include Queens Park, Moody Park and the newest edition, Pier Park. There are also various annual community events such as the Hyack Festival.

 

The city is centrally located with easy access to Highway 1 and Highway 91. There are 5 Skytrain stations and a wide variety of bus routes. Douglas Collage is conveniently located by the New Westminster Skytrain Station.

 

There are many other great things New West has to offer. Each neighbourhood has its very own wonderful characteristics that make them home to many different families. The city is rich with diversity and culture and is waiting for you to call it home if you do not call it home already!
